M.A. and Ph.D. in English Language Studies (International Program)

Program Information

Established under the Department of English, the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University, the English Language Studies (ELS) international program offers both M.A and Ph.D degrees, encompassing a wide range of the English language disciplines ranging from Applied Linguistics, Intercultural Communication, to Professional English. This highly flexible program allows students to choose their area of interests and conduct research based on one of these three tracks.

Admission 

  • eTypes of Admission
  1. M.A. Program(for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree). Students can choose between Thesis and Non-thesis plans.
  2. Ph.D. Program(for candidates with a Master’s degree).

 

Admission Requirements

  • For MA. Program:  a Bachelor’s degree in any field with the minimum GPA of 2.50

 

  • For Ph.D. Program: a Master’s degree in any field with the minimum GPA of 3.25

 

  • English Proficiency Scores: one of the following English scores (score reports are valid for two years):
    TOEFL (Internet-based)              no less than 79
    TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Program)    no less than 550
    IELTS                                         no less than 6.5
    TU-GET (paper-based)              no less than 550
    TU-GET (Computer-based)       no less than 79

(except those who completed a degree program in which English is used as medium of instruction within two years prior to the application date).

Required Documents

  1. Completed application form 
  2. Two-1-inch-size photos
  3. A copy of official transcripts
  4. A copy of citizen ID card (or Passport for non-Thai candidates)
  5. A valid English test score report
  6. A copy of bank transfer of 1,000 baht for non-refundable application fee (See details in the application form)
  7. A 1,000-word research proposal (for Ph.D. candidates only)
  8. Two letters of recommendation (for Ph.D. candidates only)

Descriptions of exam

  • Candidates are asked to write ONE essay of about 600-800 on a topic related to Applied Linguistics or Intercultural Communication.
  • No dictionaries are allowed.

 

Notes: The deadline for submission of the English test score for M.A. applicants: TBA

     M.A. candidates who fail to submit the score will be disqualified even if they passed the written and interview exams.

Ph.D. Interview
